THUG NOTES is a hilarious reenvisioning of the concept of Cliffs Notes, the print study guides that summarize literary works. Narrator Greg Edwards makes the most of the humor in these streetwise summaries of the classics. His style helps translate erudite literary concepts into the everyday language of hip-hop culture. While Edwards's delivery of slang is believable and entertaining, his raspy, insistent vocals can become repetitive if listened to for long periods of time. And listeners should be aware that explicit and sexual language is used throughout each of the story summaries. Nonetheless, this is a fun and useful look at the plot, characters, and themes of such classics as ROMEO AND JULIET, and many other works. M.R. © AudioFile 2015, Portland, Maine
