This latest installment in DK's long-running series is organized by period and geography ("Ancient Greece"; "The Americas"; "Oceania"), each beginning with a chronology and overview, followed by essays, key people and animals, and more. Shaded boxes, informational lists, infographics, and large photos aid in comprehension. VERDICT Coverage tilts somewhat toward Greek, Roman, and other European myths, but Asia and Africa are not ignored. Consider for all public libraries.

World mythology gets the infographic treatment in the latest title in DK's Big Ideas Simply Explained series. This compact, modestly priced volume explores 80 major myths and characters, from Zeus and Loki to the Monkey King and the trickster Maui. Entries are arranged by region; about a third of the book is made up of ancient Greek and Roman mythology, while subsequent sections explore northern Europe, Asia, the Americas, ancient Egypt and Africa, and Oceania. Each section begins with a short introductory essay and time line, and each myth contains an In Brief box that identifies its theme, source, setting, and key figures.
