Grades 2-5 The Show-How Guides series (2 titles) helps readers learn targeted skillsets, with this entry promising to teach the 20 essential knots every kid should know. Sized slightly wider than a checkbook, the enticing volume is printed in black and kelly green and features two cartoon dots that make frequent appearances, offering readers knot-tying advice, encouragement, and comic relief. Broken into five knot categories, the book clearly depicts various ways of securing rope or string with well-illustrated step-by-step instructions, each requiring anywhere from 3 to 12 maneuvers. With practice, dexterous readers can master the likes of the Monkey Fist (a stopper knot), the Tautline Hitch, and the Perfection Loop. Possible Use suggestions accompany each knot, and a closing camping scene identifies all the knots in play. Kids will knot want to miss this.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2020, American Library Association.)
